It's the end of 2020, finally, and we have a new release!
The FuMP Volume 84 collects all the songs we posted during November and December of 2020, and ends with a special bonus alternate version of "In the Year 2020" by Drew Jacobs!
This album features the FuMP debuts of D.C. and Co. who sings about things you can't do in a kayak, and Nurserached, who sings about the end of his opera career, which makes sense now that he's posting songs to The FuMP. This album also features the return of some old favorites including Raymond and Scum, Phil Johnson and Roadside Attraction, and MEGATHRUSTER.

It's time for The FuMP's annual free countdown/giveaway where we tally up our favorite tracks of the previous year and then give them away for free. The FuMP Presents Our Best Comedy Songs of 2020 as Chosen by the Artists in No Particular Order is just that, and this one goes to eleven! Truth is we were debating between two songs and finally said screw it, let's include them both! So here we present our 11 favorite tracks of 2020.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER:
The MarsCon Convention Committee has been making plans for both an in-person convention like usual, and a virtual MarsCon 2021 if large gatherings are still not going to be allowed in Bloomington MN during March 12th through 14th, 2021. Right now, that seems to be the most likely scenario, and if it is, the acts listed above have all agreed to perform concerts from home into MarsCon’s virtual convention video feed. Stay tuned to the websites and social media accounts of MarsCon (Minneapolis) and the MarsCon Comedy Music Track for updates.
A TRACK BY ANY OTHER NAME WOULD SOUND JUST AS DEMENTED
You may have noticed the “MarsCon Dementia Track” has changed its name to the “MarsCon Comedy Music Track”. This something I have been thinking about doing for a few years. The main reason I wanted to make this change is because, unlike other words that started in fandom circles that went mainstream (fanboy, pwned, cosplay, etc.), the term “dementia” as coined by Dr. Demento to mean “comedy music” (as well as sketches, stand-up, and/or other funny or odd audio that may be heard on “The Dr. Demento Show”) sadly has yet to catch on with anyone outside of Dr. Demento fandom.
Due to that, my assumption is that when someone new to MarsCon looks at the convention’s programming and sees the phrase “MarsCon Dementia Track”, they will either (1.) not have any idea what that means, or (2.) think that the track is about the medical condition known as “dementia”. I feel I owe it to all of the acts that I persuade to come out and perform at MarsCon every year to do everything I can to get them as large as audience as possible. I ran this idea past the folks following our track’s Facebook page, and there was nearly unanimous support to make the change. Lindsay Smith updated the logo for me, and I made the changes to our online accounts:
Website: http://www.MarsConComedy.com
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/MarsConComedy
Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/MarsConComedy
People in the fandom are still going to use the word “dementia” to mean comedy music (etc.), just as the 79-year-old Dr. Demento is still doing every week on his online show. Heck, Dr. D. just released a new album which has the earliest comedy songs ever recorded (1895~1925), titling the album “FIRST CENTURY DEMENTIA”! I am just trying to get a few more butts in the seats at our track’s concerts by putting the words “COMEDY MUSIC” in our name, so that people who never found Dr. D.’s show but love the funny songs of “Weird Al” Yankovic, The Lonely Island, Epic Rap Battles Of History, Garfunkel & Oates, Rachel Bloom, Princess Rap Battles by Whitney Avalon, Flight Of The Conchords, Ninja Sex Party, Tenacious D, and the Aquabats will see the words “MarsCon Comedy Music Track” and think “Hey! I love comedy music! I should register for MarsCon and check that out!”
THE MARSCON COMEDY MUSIC SAMPLER PLATTER CONCERT!
Every November, MarsCon holds a Masquerade Ball to promote their convention happening 4 months later. This year it was a Virtual Masquerade Ball, and the MarsCon Comedy Music Track was asked to contribute by having a one-hour “Sampler Platter” Concert, which is now up on YouTube for all to see! The show features Beth Kinderman, Marc With A C, past Music Guests Of Honor Dr. Pinkerton of the C.O.G., Lauren Mayer, Devo Spice, the great Luke Ski, and MarsCon 2021’s Music Guest Of Honor Robbie Ellis!

OK, let's try this again. FuMPFest 2021 will be taking place August 20-22 in Chicago with our guest of honor, Dr. Demento!
Join us for live performances by a slew of talented comedy-musicians, our annual Dumb Parody Ideas thing, the Logan Awards, and our 50th anniversary celebration of The Dr. Demento Show with Dr. Demento himself and some other special guests.
Dr. Demento will be on hand Friday and Saturday to present his Festival of Dementia, sign autographs, answer questions, and host the 11th annual Logan Whitehurst Memorial Award for Excellence in Comedy Music.
And we are thrilled to announce our first batch of performers for the weekend:Amy Engelhardt - The former member of The Bobs is returning for another batch of great songs, and hopefully by then her new album Finish What You will be... well, finished.
Bill Larkin - Local legend Bill Larkin who has been seen on Comedy Central and all over Chicago's theater scene will be returning for another batch of amazing comedy.
Clearly Guilty - The "nerdy, purdy, and dirty" girls of geeky music closed out FuMPFest 2019 with an amazing show and we are thrilled to welcome them back for 2021.
Nuclear Bubble Wrap - This psychedelic alternative rock band from Tennessee... yes, we said band... had the #1 song of the year on The Dr. Demento Show in 2010.
Ross Childs - Another local legend, Ross Childs is a founding member of the Chicago sketch comedy team Waffle Junkies and will be doing his first full FuMPFest concert in 2021.
Worm Quartet - The one-man-band synth-punk-comedy "Pac-Man guy from VH-1" will be back to shout at you about nipples and sweat on the first few rows of the audience.
And we are pleased to announce the release of our 2020 compilation album FuMPFest 2020 - Live! The album features recordings from our online FuMPFest 2020 event which took place on August 29, 2020. It includes performances by Amy Engelhardt, Carla Ulbrich, Worm Quartet, and the Consortium of Genius, plus selections from Dumb Parody Ideas and The Logan Awards. The album culminates with a live performance of "Another One Rides the Bus" by the great Luke Ski, TV's Kyle, and Linzilla to celebrate the 40th anniversary of that song. Proceeds from the sale of the album go to support the convention, so please help us out and pick up a copy. Click here to pick up your copy.
All of this is pandemic-permitting, of course. We will not do anything that risks anyone's safety.
Registration for the weekend is now open. Join us in celebrating 50 years of The Dr. Demento Show! Click here to register.

Devo Spice's song "Spider Verses" now has an official music video! The video will premiere on our YouTube channel on Wednesday, July 15th at 8:00 PM EDT.
"Spider Verses" is a group jam about the movie Into the Spider Verse and features appearances by Creative Mind Frame aka 1-Up, Insane Ian, Bonnie Gordon of The Library Bards, TV's Kyle, LEX the Lexicon Artist, and the great Luke Ski. The song was the #1 most requested song of 2019 on The Dr. Demento Show.
The video was mostly filmed at MarsCon 2019 in the musician's lounge with the help of Jared Ringold. That was the year that Insane Ian had his gall bladder out during the convention so he wasn't available to film his part, so he did his separately. 1-Up and Lex each filmed their parts remotely since they didn't attend the con, and then Bonnie had to reshoot her part because it turned out to be impossible to key out a person in a white costume from in front of a bed sheet. This was the project where Devo learned the true value of a green screen.
The video will premiere on YouTube at 8:00 PM EDT on Wednesday, July 15th. Join us at https://youtu.be/oI42vn6qygY!
