I've
been wanting to do a comedy song tribute to the Cartoon Network
series "Adventure
Time" for about 4 years now. Almost immediately upon
deciding to do this, a parody idea popped into my head, but I put it
aside because I wanted to see if I could come up with a better and
also original song idea to do instead. In all that time, I couldn't
come up with one that I thought was worthy, which was at least
partially because the songs that occasionally pop up in actual
episodes of "Adventure Time" are all so well done, and so perfectly
encapsulate all the emotions of these complex characters in this
very layered story whose deep mythos grows faster than fanfiction.
Cut to a few months ago, I knew I wanted to have a new comedy song
to world premiere at my live concert performances at Gen Con Indy
2015, so I took a look at my long list of various song ideas, and
there was this old, silly, super-obvious, dumb parody idea waving
right back at me, like the Banana Man floating in space. Well I
didn't need the Cosmic Owl to tell me that it was time for me to put
my reservations aside, sit down and rewatch all 199 episodes of
"Adventure Time" again and take extensive notes (oh yes I
lumpin' did), and then sit down to 'Penn' this little tune. So
without further boom-boom, here is my tribute to the most tragic
fictional character in modern literature: the awesome, ridiculously
hilarious, and totally insane wizard known as the Ice King, set to
the most popular song ever released by one Mr. Robert
Matthew Van Winkle. I hope all you hardcore "Adventure
Time" fans think the track is mathematical, and that it doesn't
really smell like dog buns.
Voice cast:
Luke Ski as the Ice King, Jake The Dog, and
most everyone else
Jace McClain as Finn the Human
Tia Ballard as (it's a surprise, you'll figure it out)
Music, mixing, & mastering by Jace McClain of the band Nuclear Bubble
Wrap (who did their own awesome
song about "Adventure Time" available here at the Funny
Music Project, a.k.a. TheFuMP.com)
I, "Luke Ski",
am currently working at Cartoon Network as a storyboard revisionist
on their new digital series "Mighty
MagiSwords", and have been making nerdy comedy songs on
geeky and other pop-culture topics for over 20 years, very many of
which have been about cartoons, both on TV as well as animated
features. To find all of them, you can search through my artist page

I was going to listen to this song, but about halfway through the description I got tired and had to take a nap! :) KIDDING! Great song, Luke!

Ah, "parodies in character." This is the type of song that made me a fan of Luke in the first place. Now, I've only seen a couple episodes of Adventure Time so I can't say I fully get this song, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
