Cirque du So What Elevator
Some patrons of the FuMP don't feel this is a place where sketch comedy should be posted. They say that it "takes the "M" out of the FuMP", or imply that certain members of Cirque du So What? have forgotten that the M stands for 'MUSIC'.

Okay. You want music? We'll give you music.

The next time you're in a busy public place and the song featured in this track rockets to the front of your frontal lobe, and it takes every fibre of your being to stop yourself from singing it aloud in public, just remember that this is what was asked for from us, so blame them.

Sketch written by ShoEboX, music written and composed by Timothy F. Crist, and arranged and produced by Chris Mezzolesta. Special guest appearance by, well, you'll figure it out.

From our continually existing album "Stupid Cowboy Thing - Volume 1: GRANDMOTHER!" which you can purchase right here at the FuMP.

Remember, you asked for it.
This song is now available on the following CDs:

SO. F'N. WRONG. But the cameo at the end saves it.

Oh just wait until you listen to the very very end of the CD ;)

Yeah...remind me to "thank" you for this wholly inappropriate ear worm. I just got the damned thing out of my head, and there it is again. "Dee dee dee..."
2011-08-23 stevegoodie
Glad to hear you kids are all white. I mean all RIGHT! Dammit! See what you made me do? And now I'll never hear that Who song the white way again.

You put the elevator sketch on the FuMP. You people are evil!! So very, very evil!!

My workmates thank you for getting this stuck in my head so I could get it stuck in their head. Loved the stuff at the end as it faded out too

HAHAHAHAHA!!! That song is so freaking hysterical! Well done guys!

We totally need to make a t-shirt that says "Dee dee dee white... *AHEM!*"

Am I the only one that didn't like this? Maybe I don't get the joke. The skit made me confused, and the song just makes me shake my head. One of the few tracks on the new album I just don't like. Those that love it, great. Me, I'm sorry, but I just don't get it.

That was....Bulbous Boufant! MACADAMIA!!!

They don't call it the "Great White Way" fer nuthin'... >:-)

Mr. Tuesday -- yeah, as I feared, none of the non-white fans chimed in with their appreciation. I didn't mind it being on the album but wasn't thrilled about it being on the FuMP.
2011-08-24 Insane Ian
Actually, MrTuesday, you're NOT the only one who doesn't like it. I don't either. I don't think it's a matter of "not getting the joke". The joke is very straight forward, but it's not a joke everyone can laugh at. It's a ridiculous situation, and comedy can come from that. Sure, it's offensive, but the ridiculousness of it is what is supposed to make it funny. Sadly, it just makes me uncomfortable, and sometimes...that's the reaction. However, I will say after hearing it a few weeks ago, and then re-listening again...that song is a damn earworm. The only thing I *DO* like about this is the lines at the VERY end. Other than that, it's a track I'll skip on CD...

Hey, peeps. Interesting to see the range of responses here. Personally, I'm proud of this one. I wrote it as part of a flurry of activity a couple of weeks before we were scheduled to get together and record. I can't say where exactly in my brain it's from, but my goal was to try my hand at awkward/uncomfortable humor a la Louis CK and Ricky Gervais, which I haven't really done before, but doing it in a different way - building toward epic ridiculousness. I tend to hate uncomfortable humor unless it's done well, and of course people will have different definitions of what "done well" means, so I'm not surprised to see this isn't everybody's cup of tea, though I have to say the public no-confidence vote from one of the people involved in the sketch was more than a little disheartening. Regardless, I'm really happy with the way this came out...Luke's delivery was spot-on, Chris's production (particularly the arrangement of the song) was great, and Flat 29 was perfect for the ending bit. This is probably the sketch I was most excited about getting people's reactions to on the new album, so thanks for the words. -='Box=-

Well, as long as Superhorse likes it, that's all that really matters.

I have listened to this several times (I purchased the CD), but an interested coincidence occurred to me when I read Devo Spice's comment above. The lady that cuts my hair, her name is Dee White. Now this song is going to be my earworm every time that I get my hair cut!!!

As someone who looks at the line of decency and takes a whiz on it, I like the bit and at times have the song get stuck in my head. Though I personally hope in the future that there will be more bits that go beyond the line of good taste, I know too many of them will upset and eventually turn away other fans.

In the previous comment, I meant to type "interesting", not "interested". Whoops!
2011-08-24 Superhorse
Well, given the many social mores that exist in modern society, I think that this piece satirizes the phenomena of Caucasian liberal guilt quite wel-, hey! What's this puddle on the floor by my computer?! WHOAAoaaoaAOOAOOAaooaaoo!!!
2011-08-25 devospice
Ooooh Superhorse...
2011-08-26 Vladinatrix
I for one think it's brilliant. While I can understand some people not being entirely comfortable with it, I for one love what the joke is really saying. I don't perceive it as racist. Rather, I perceive it as pointing out the absurdity of racism. While I'm sorry to see that people that I have a tremendous amount of respect for are uncomfortable with it (Carrie, Ian, and MrTuesday), I'm made far more uncomfortable by the fact that we are the only people on the planet who can't make fun of our own ethnicity without somehow being wrong for doing it, no matter our intentions. Perhaps that's the real thing to be uncomfortable about. I personally refuse to feel shame for laughing at this - it's funny!

Totally agree with the Vladinator. That said, I would love to see more soul on the FuMP sometimes. Artists of color, the dementia world awaits your efforts. And when is Cirque Du So What going to make a video?
2011-08-29 TonyGoldmark
Well, of course it's inappropriate and offensive - IT'S A COMEDY SKETCH! And a Goddamn good one too. Like really good "stoopid" humor, it's the kind of sketch where you laugh twice - once at the sketch, and again at yourself for being amused by something so wholly socially incorrect. If comedians weren't allowed to mine every last crevasse of the psychology of "offensiveness" for these kinds of laughs, then our natural comedy resources would've been totally depleted by 1978 or so. I say drill, baby, drill! And if your white guilt still bothers you, FWIW, all the white supremacists I know HATE it for the "faggy showtune." Feel better now?
2011-08-29 TonyGoldmark
Wait, did I say "white supremacists"? I meant "Rucka's Nuckas." Common mistake.
2011-09-03 EclecticLee
Wonderfully inappropriate.

"Elevator"="Short People". Think about it.
