Let's visit a phenomenon called THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT...the little movie that came out of nowhere and made everyone take notice...and then forget about it by the time the awful sequel came out. We played this song maybe two times back in '99 and then put it out of it's misery but for some reason, people remember it. Maybe it's because it's a parody which is rare for us. The great Luke Ski listed it on his LiveJournal a couple of weeks ago as one of his top ten Raymond And Scum songs so you can blame him for the song's resurrection here on The FuMP. Cause, really, we forgot all about it. So enjoy this, another Raymond And Scum parody rarity -- yes, it's a parody of BITCH by Meredith Brooks -- and we promise, the next Raymond And Scum FuMP track will be a brand new recording. Maybe. Tom Smith's classic hit 'I Want To Be Peter Lorre' has been parodied countless times over the past couple decades. Back in the fall of 2004, I got the idea to take his song about the beloved bug-eyed character actor of classic cinema, Peter Lorre, and rewrite it about the beloved bug-eyed character actor of modern cinema, Steve Buscemi. I performed it a couple of times, but it has since been collecting dust in a spiral notebook in my storage room of doom. Last week some fans and friends were asking about it in the Dementia Radio chat room, which led to me asking Tom for his permission and talent in making it a reality. Tom graciously whipped up some background music for me to use... Background music which will later be improved for his forthcoming re-recorded version of 'I Want To Be Peter Lorre' as part of his 'Sounds Familiar' project which he's been posting at iTom, where you can get even more free comedy songs, just like right here at the FuMP!... Anyway, I had always hoped to have this song recorded someday, so thank you again to Tom Smith for making this track a reality. To be specific, a parody of the traditional song "I Had A Cat/I Bought Me A Cat". Just... the songs you usually have, with kitties and duckies and puppies, simply aren't up to the task of raising our kids. Don't read the lyrics before listening to it, mmkay? Spoilery and all that. I was originally planning this for last week, but the banjo reminded me of "Stony Peak", which is why both of them have banjo all over the place. Fri, 25 Apr 2008 01:00:00 -0500
