More than a mere relaxicon. They've got an LJ community, [info]constructacon, for brainstorming and such. And, unlike the Think Galactic/Origins situation, I definitely have that weekend open, it's in Ann Arbor at a good hotel, and I will be there.

What kinds of programming do you like to participate in at cons? Not what panels or whatever you want to see -- what do you like to be on? Back in the day, I ran games; now, I sing, and sometimes participate in panels on music creation or self-publishing or rights or DRM.

* Not to be confused with Confuse-A-Cat.

Happy Birthday, Norma Jean

Mortenson, that is. Or Baker. But you know her a little better as Marilyn Monroe, born on this date in 1926.

It's been awhile since we did this, so... who are your nominees for sexiest actor or actress? Nothing's really rattled my top three -- Anne Hathaway, Salma Hayek, and Kate Winslet, with Keira Knightley and Catherine Zeta-Jones right behind. Christina Ricci and Jennifer Connelly if they've been fed properly. Claudia Christian (thanks, [info]blackpaladin and [info]saganth). And Emma Watson's gonna be on this list very soon, I suspect. Guys, Hugh Jackman, Jude Law, David Tennant, Edward Norton, Dan Radcliffe, and I'd probably say Christian Bale if I really was inclined in that direction.

Think Galactic

Think Galactic:

is a Chicago-based reading group that seeks to discuss speculative fiction from a radical left perspective. We meet at 7:30pm every second Thursday of the month at Myopic Books in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood. Vegan snacks are usually provided. [yum!]

[also from their web site: "THINK GALACTIC is a pro-woman, pro-queer, and anti-racism group that dreams of a world without oppressive hierarchies."]

Think Galacticon 2009 will take place Friday, June 26 - Sunday, June 28 in downtown Chicago. Register here!
(They also have an LJ community, [info]think_galactic.)

I will be attending. I'll have a dealer's table on Saturday and Sunday, and I might be able to steal a room for some music at some point, or possibly just have a mini-concert in the dealers room. :)

Anybody interested?

My ass.

Abortion provider George Tiller was shot to death today, in the lobby of the church he attended.

This man helped women with difficult decisions regarding their own bodies, health, and lives.

Another man, who believed his God wants more births, shot up a church to kill him.

I don't care which side of the debate you take. This is wrong on every level.

And if you honestly believe that some gestating cells, the potential for a human life, have some sort of equivalency with this man's existence -- especially if you bring up the knee-jerk argument about "late-term abortions" without realizing that late-term abortions are almost always performed as a last resort to save the mother from being killed by an unviable pregnancy -- then perhaps you should ask yourself precisely what "pro-life" means to you.

I'm sure we'd all be fascinated by the answer.
