Manic Mondays 205

This week's show is posted. On this show I rant about clothing and play a couple songs about clothing, although to be honest one is more about removing clothes than anything else.

Adventures In Singapore

Matt Wallace is a talented author and one of the brains behind the Variant Frequencies podcast which I listen to. His book The Next Fix is now available on the Amazon Kindle and the iPhone and iPod Touch and he asked many of his friends to come up with a video promo for it.

After talking about the video promo with author Mur Lafferty I decided that my promo should be an answer to hers. Matt made them both into one video. The result is below.

Buy The Next Fix on Amazon.com ( paperback, or kindle)

I-CON Report and Pictures

Friday I met up with my father in Long Island at the Pizza Hut we always go to only to discover the ruins of a once-great lunch buffet. After finding an alternate source of pizza we headed over to the convention locations and started hanging up fliers. This is about as much fun as sticking pencils in my eye, but it's necessary.

Registration opened a little after 5:00, the first panel was at 6:00, and our first concert, the FuMP Showcase was at 7:00, at a location 20 minutes from registration. Needless to say I wasn't expecting a large crowd.

Worm Quartet, Power Salad (pictured), Marc Gunn and I performed for a small but appreciative crowd for an hour on Friday night. After that I sneaked off to a web comics panel before returning in time to catch the last half of Dr. SETI's set. Dr. SETI did a one hour set, which was followed by a half hour set by Marc Gunn. So we had the search for intelligent alien life followed by kitties and beer. Only at a con.

At 11:00 I took the stage for a half hour, and had a good set despite the fact that my asthma was acting up for some reason, and my voice was a little weak because Shoebox and I performed "Goddammit Marc Gunn Shut Up About Your Cat" at the FuMP show a couple hours earlier. After I went on stage Shoebox took the stage for a half hour and also had a great set. When we were all done and had our stuff packed up we went to Marc Gunn's hotel room along with a few welcome stowaways and recorded this week's episode of Manic Mondays which you can download here.

Saturday I went to a film making panel, and then to Sean Astin's talk where I felt like an idiot because I never realized he was John Astin's son. (I mixed up the naming on Flickr. That's Sean somewhere in that very dark picture.) I spent the rest of Saturday at various panels and things, and eventually went back to my room to take a nap before dinner.

After the banquet it was time for the Cabaret, which is always fun. This time the room was full, as expected. Worm Quartet's stuff just destroyed the room. The audience was pretty much howling throughout his set. The con also featured performances by Flynn's Folly (pictured), featuring Andrew McGee-the other ex-Brobdingnagian Bard. I went on after Shoebox and did Life In The Fleet and Pac-Man, which both went over great. I unfortunately missed Power Salad's set because I was out in the hall manning our impromptu merch table. After the Cabaret Shoebox, Chris, my father, and I all went across the street to Applebee's to get some ice cream. We don't have groupies to party with after we rock, so we go get ice cream. It's standard procedure.

Sunday morning I planned to go to a couple panels but they all seemed to be canceled, so I took the time to track down a CD-R and a laptop with a burner and a user willing to burn stuff for me so I could make a CD of Busted and give it to Tory. It was tough by I succeeded. I'll let you all know if I hear anything from him or the other Mythbusters about the song. I spent the rest of Sunday on various panels, most of which ended up being canceled for one reason or another. My father left around 3:00. I stayed to the end because I wanted to attend a panel on self-promotion through blogging, which was well worth it.

Overall the con was awesome, but I must say that I hate the split venue set up. Having panels and events and talks at 3 different locations which are 10-20 minutes apart is really inconvenient, and often makes it impossible to attend back to back events. On the other hand, I sold more CDs at this year's I-CON than any past I-CONs, so something must have clicked.

The entire set of pictures I took are posted on my Flickr account here. Some of them are very dark, and the Tory/Sean ones are mislabeled. I may fix them at some point. But more likely I won't.
