Interesting, fantastic year so far! Lemme recap, month by month...

• January: Did long overdue overhaul to the main C.O.G.-puter.
• February: Dr. Formelda Hyde officially joined the band. Also commissioned a secondary lineup of C.O.G. to be able to play any gig offered. Also played our first outdoor show.
• March: Played a huge show with Peelander Z and a giant cockroach - our first show on a festival bill.
• April: Played a great show in Huntsville to a bunch of cool Steampunk kids, proving the viability of playing Huntsville (lots better than the previous outing last year.) Also mixed the first material I've ever done that came out on vinyl 45 (for another band - sadly not mine!)
• May: Played first show with Formelda at the Republic in New Orleans - a fantastic night! Did another great radio takeover at Tulane's WTUL FM. Also got the first band writeup in an actual published book.
• June: Got accepted to perform at VoodooFest 2010!!! Friendly persistence pays off!!! Also finished a full length CD for the NOLA ska band The Local Skank.
• July: Played at Ancient City Con, the farthest I've ever driven for a gig. Hopefully not going to stay the farthest though! My friends in Local Skank just completed their east coast tour, and I aim to do that with one of the C.O.G. lineups as well!

As we move into August, I'm getting down to the nitty gritty on the new CD, and have no shows booked until VoodooFest. Gotta reverse that trend! For one thing, any show must be booked two months away in order to effectively promote, and I aim to have the album finished and published by then. So now it's time for me to get off my duff and make some calls. Excuse me! Wed, 28 Jul 2010 01:00:00 -0500 Something Awful This Way Went by Nuclear Bubble Wrap http://www.thefump.com/blog_entry.php?id=36&blog=1990
Well it finally happened. Some brave soul just purchased the very last copy of “Something Stupid This Way Comes.” I hope they know they’re in for.

That CD was made in 2005 when we first formed the band. We didn’t know what we were doing and had very little knowledge of musicianship. Songs were recorded without a click track. The guitar playing is atrocious. The songwriting is just plain bad. Nevertheless, it happened. I suppose it had to happen because otherwise, we never would have learned how to actually create music.

Only about 40 copies of that CD actually exist. And the very last one got sold. It’s gone. Forever! We got rid of it. Success!
Tue, 27 Jul 2010 01:00:00 -0500 Latest developments... by Consortium Of Genius http://www.thefump.com/blog_entry.php?id=34&blog=1989 Things have been humming along quite nicely, with major work being done on the upcoming album - now with its shiny new title: "Music for Supervillains!" That should prove to be a great concept for our cover artist (whomever we end up using... still out to lunch on that one...)

Meanwhile, mad experiments at the Secret Lab continue, with our new idea to broadcast SECRET MESSAGES during the upcoming shows. After a productive recording session last night with Dr. Rachnid and Dr. Hyde, I set up the new transmitter and successfully started COG-casting throughout the neighborhood! Attendees at upcoming C.O.G. lectures are going to want to bring something that can receive FM - either an old Walkman or a radio-equipped iPod for SECRET MESSAGES!!! If you can think of anything I need to add to it, let me know. Thanks. :) Mon, 26 Jul 2010 01:00:00 -0500 The new album… by Nuclear Bubble Wrap http://www.thefump.com/blog_entry.php?id=36&blog=1986

The next Nuclear Bubble Wrap release is called “Exploding Head Syndrome.” Every song on the album has been written. All but two are completely finished. In the next recording session, those two will be finished and hopefully the album will see a late September/early October release.

Making this album has been a thrilling experience. We’ve evolved tremendously over the years. I know in the beginning, we sucked. But we kept trying. I’m really happy with the direction we’ve been going in lately and couldn’t be anymore excited for this album.

See, it’s almost sad to think about this, but one thing I’ve always dreamed of is making a record that I’m not embarrassed to play for somebody else from start to finish. In NBW, I’ve never done that. A lot of it is my fault, really. I used to rush albums like mad. I would write songs that I knew weren’t up to par, just for the sake of padding the album length. Even the debut studio EP, You Are What You Eat contains songs I’m not exactly proud of.

But over the past year I’ve gotten much more confident in my songwriting ability and our musicianship. I’m not just trying to make zany off the wall comedy songs. I want to write songs that actually resonate with people… genuinely heartfelt and well written songs, musically and lyrically. And I think I’m finally getting somewhere. I’m really proud of every song on this record.

And so, Exploding Head Syndrome will exist soon. I need to thank my bandmates, Kyle, Brendan and Eric for sticking through this ride and helping to create this album. It’s definitely the best thing we’ve made up to this point and you guys have displayed an amazing amount of creativity and musicianship. Also need to thank Steve Goodie, our producer/engineer without whom the album couldn’t sound as amazing as it does. And finally, thanks to my friend Brandon for being there to criticize my music and not being afraid to whip me into shape when something wasn’t good enough.

The tracklist:
1. I think it’s time we recap what those things were.

CONvergence 2010

We performed at CONvergence! What? You missed it? Shame on you! The show went well, and while we didn’t have the packed house that we had last year at 10:00 on Friday evening, we had a decent crowd who seemed to be content to spend 45 minutes listening to us wail on a Saturday afternoon. I think our stage energy was good, and that’s what matters, right? CD sales met expectations as well. Thanks to you (yes, you) if you bought our new album.

We attempted to stream the concert live on Ustream using a cell phone, a feat that was too much for the poor device’s battery to handle for the entire show. You can check out bite-sized clips of our show on our Ustream channel. I can only assume that the phone kept losing its connection frequently, resulting in the short videos. We might do more live PO events in the future, so follow us on Twitter to get notified when the channel goes live.

New Album for Sale

Our new album Individual Results May Vary is available now on CD and as a download. You can buy either version from our new web store, powered by Bandcamp, for $9.99 for the CD or $7.99 for the download.

http://music.possibleoscar.com/

PO on the Radio

Possible Oscar was a call-in guest to the Sarasota, FL radio show “Geekin’ Out w/ Skippy & The Dude” on Sunday, July 18. We talked about the new album and the history of the band as well as nerdy topics like pencil and paper gaming and spaghetti western movies. I believe you can stream the episode for the rest of the week at the radio station’s website. Our thanks go out to the hosts for having us on. We had a blast!

Podcast

We’re now recording a podcast on a semi-regular basis. Each episode is a brief glimpse into what’s going on with the band and as many childish jokes we can cram into 10-15 minutes. Subscribe to the podcast feed (subscribe in any podcatching software) or through iTunes (subscribe in the iTunes store) to keep up with every episode.

—-

That’s the news for July.
